Participating in the Fraud Investigator Internship with University Audit has been a rewarding opportunity and has introduced me to a new career path. It has been interesting to learn about the investigative process, from the start of the investigation to the conclusion, and how this process improves procedures throughout the university. It has exposed me to a wide range of fraud investigations and allowed me to gain firsthand investigative experience. The level of professionalism and knowledge from the staff has been admirable. Everyone is welcoming and eager to answer any questions. Regardless of your major, I recommend applying for this opportunity to learn more about the investigative process. At the conclusion of my internship, I am pleased to continue with University Audit where I can grow professionally and study to become a Certified Fraud Examiner.

Undergraduate Accounting Major

As a Fraud Investigator Intern with University Audit, I have learned so much and continue to learn more every day. Although I am interested in external audit in the future, this internship with University Audit has introduced me to an entirely new area I had never really considered; internal audit and fraud investigation. Working on investigations and helping come up with new ways to stop and detect fraud within UCF has been an invaluable experience. Accounting students or anyone interested in fraud should inquire about this internship with University Audit. I will graduate this semester (Fall 2019) with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. I have been accepted into UCF’s Master of Science in Accounting program and will complete an audit internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers (Orlando) in January of 2020. After my internship with PwC, I will begin studying for/taking the CPA exam.

My time at University Audit has opened my eyes to new career options that are fascinating and meaningful. On the surface, this internship provided me the opportunity to learn while pursuing college credit. Looking in depth will show this was one of the most influential experiences in my undergraduate career. I have learned about audit software, data analysis, investigative procedures, and work paper writing and structure. The most important skill I have learned is how to work with people. The way that everyone in this office holds themselves and interacts with the university community plays a major role in their ability to successfully accomplish University Audit’s goal. To observe and work alongside these amazing people has been educational and fun. I recommend students of any major with an interest in fraud detection and prevention apply for this invaluable opportunity. After graduation, I am excited to stay on as a member of the team as a staff auditor and pursue my Certified Fraud Examiner credential. I look forward to helping offer the same opportunities to future interns.

Working at University Audit as a Fraud Investigations Intern has been an eye-opening and exciting experience. I rubbed shoulders with CFOs, Special Assistants to the President, and other high-ranking University officials. I saw various professionals come together to support the mission of the University and I learned first-hand the importance and complexity of fraud detection and prevention. All accounting students and any student with an interest in fraud should make it a point to pursue this internship as the staff in this office have a wealth of accounting/audit experience to pull from and they are more than willing to provide career advice. Although I am still not quite sure what my path post-graduation looks like, the experiences and friendships I have made here at University Audit have prepared me to be successful in any professional endeavors and pursuits.

Demi Paulino is an accounting student at the University of Central Florida. She is expected to graduate in May of 2017. She is a D.C. native and plans to move back home to get her Masters in Accounting as well as her CPA license. In the summer of 2017, she will start her tax internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers. When she is not studying, Demi enjoys reading, spending time with family, and playing with her dog.

Sarah Kusher is expected to graduate in December 2016 with a double major in Accounting and Finance. Afterwards, she plans on going on to graduate school and obtaining her Masters in Accounting. She was recently awarded the FICPA Educational Foundation Scholarship and hopes to attain her CPA licensure. Outside of school, Sarah is passionate about music, loves spending time with her dog and rabbit, and enjoys writing.

"Interning as a Fraud Investigator at University Audit was without a doubt a great experience. I had the opportunity to increase my knowledge in fraud investigation and gain the skills needed to prevent, detect, and investigate fraud. It was very interesting to see all the steps involved in solving a case, and learning about the different process involved with internal auditing. Juanita Fajardo is a student at the University of Central Florida. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Accounting and is expecting to graduate spring of 2016. After receiving her bachelor's degree, she plans to continue her education, and receive her Masters of Science in accounting. Her ultimate goal is to become a CPA and later a Certified Fraud Examiner. In her free time, Juanita enjoys spending time with her family and friends, going on walks, and traveling.

Melissa Giannetta is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Accounting. A born and raised Floridian, Melissa is proud to call UCF her home. She is involved with student organizations on campus and is always seeking to enhance her knowledge and experience in the field of accounting. In Summer 2014, she completed the Emerging Leadership Program with Ernst & Young and will have a Spring 2016 internship with them. In her spare time, she enjoys relaxing with her two dogs and spending time outside, whether it be playing sports or just relaxing by the pool with a good book.

Justin Rice graduated from UCF in December of 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Spanish. He obtained a Master's of Science in Accounting degree at UCF in May 2015 and passed the CPA exam in June 2015. Justin developed an interest in the subject of fraud detection and prevention while learning about the Enron scandal as well as "classic" segregation of duties concepts during his first financial accounting class at the age of 19. In addition to school and accounting, Justin enjoys playing music, language learning, reading, and going on outdoor adventures with friends. In September of 2015, Justin joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in Miami, Florida as an Assurance Associate.
